The Middlefield Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Middlefield and its surrounding areas. Explore Middlefield's rich history, from the historic Century Inn to the iconic 1920s Soda Fountain at The Depot!
Step back in time at the Century Inn, a cherished landmark built in 1818 by James Thompson, a member of Middlefield's founding family. Once a bustling stopover for travelers on the state road between Warren and Painesville, the inn has served as an inn, boarding house, private home, and community hub over its two centuries of history.
From hosting town meetings and court cases to serving as a temporary hospital for injured travelers, the Century Inn has been a cornerstone of Middlefield's history. In 1983, the Village of Middlefield entrusted this iconic building to the Middlefield Historical Society, which now preserves and showcases its legacy.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "Batavia House," the Century Inn features a memorial sidewalk installed during Middlefield's bicentennial celebration and an Ohio historical marker recognizing its enduring significance. Explore the past and celebrate the vibrant history of Middlefield at this beloved site.
